Summary: There are 17 chapters in this book and each of them depicts a fictional story happening in Makor, a small town in Israel of different time periods. Although the detailed stories and characterization of people are made-up novels, the big background and the general situation of the time period is true and actual history. The time period chapters vary from 9831 BCE to World War II and each chapter can be viewed as a unique individual. There are few pages of “the tell” in each chapter that mainly describe the situation and story in the view of a 21th century Archaeological team, who are digging and discovering the ruins from each time period. The readers can understand the living style, technology development and religious ideas of each time period through reading the book.
This book is much more challenging, academic and professional than any other novels in terms of vocabulary, thesis and plots, so I recommend this book to students who are at least in or above middle school. Once people start to read the chapters, they will immediately be fascinated by the depictions and plot settings, as long as they can fully understand it. Another advantage of this book is that although it is really long (over 1000 pages), its 17 chapters are separated and do not have any important connections with each other. In other words, the readers can finish one chapter in two days, stop reading for another 3 months, and start to read another chapter and would not be affected because they forget the plots. Lastly, this book can not only bring joy to people by the plots. People can also see through the book towards the cultural, social and technological development of ancient society.
