Age Range: 15-30

Summary: Dark forces have extended Edward Wright an offer of incredible power at a terrible cost...

...and Edward has chosen to make them regret it.

When Edward is swept into the world of Ivalis as a Dungeon Lord, the Dark's most powerful servant, he has no servitude in mind. He'll oppose the evil plans of the Dark god Murmur, whatever it takes. Through only his wits and his guts to help him survive a weakened arrival, Edward must rise to power if he is to earn the right to live another day. But in the battle between Dark and Light, what can Edward choose if both sides are cruel, uncaring monsters?

Cold gods laugh in the distant world of Ivalis. Heroes chase after power and experience, while Kings send their armies to their deaths in the name of the Dark and the Light. But no one expects the rise of the Dungeon Lord... And in the world of Ivalis, maybe a single man can forge his own path.

This series deviates away from traditional LitRPGs, in how the main character has to fight against the evil monsters of the world. However, the "good" side of the world that the protagonist, Edward Wright, was dropped into is a zealous, fanatical, genocide group of Inquisitors who puts entire towns to the sword. Stuck between the typical, hellish evil side and the purging light of the Inquistors, Edward Wright is trapped in a hard place. He has to learn how to use his dungeon lord powers, the ones granted to him by the Dark, yet at the same time not fall into evil. As the story progresses, and Edward Wright finds companions to help with his dungeon, the temptations of the dark grow stronger, promising tantalizing power to protect his friends. This presents the core conflict within this story, whether Edward could resist the dark powers and keep his soul, while dangers to his dungeon grow with every passing day.

This main conflict that the story presents is what gives makes the series stand out amongst the many LitRPG books. Nothing in this world is white and black, and that others another layer of complication. There's no single right thing to do, with questions about the greater good often coming into play. The main character isn't overpowered, having to rely on his minions and game logic to overcome immense odds. The author writes this beautifully, having having Edward struggle in this world and make hard decisions which changes the course of his life.

This book also ties in Earth, and is an essential part in what makes this story engaging. Edward Wright has been transported into the world of Ivalis Online, however with different mechanics available to him. However, Earth still interacts with Ivalis through the game, with creations called "Heroes" destroying the Dark forces. Edward Wright needs to solve the mystery of the Heroes, and how they are able to connect from a faraway planet. This adds more to the story then just a new world, there are direct consequences of what goes on Earth to Ivalis. This makes the story feel more connected instead of everything happening in a faraway place. All these elements make this series one worth using time to read.
