Genres: Fantasy, Adventure

Age Range: 14 - 18

Summary: In the land of Illian, once belonging to the elves, the kingdoms of man are fractured and constantly fight for power. However, on a distant continent, the elves seek to return to their rightful homeland, and deem themselves superior to humans. In the midst of this brewing conflict, Asher, an old ranger, suddenly finds himself involved in these events, with shadows of his dark past coming back to haunt him.

In Rise of the Ranger, the story follows Asher, a ranger that was an assassin, but left that life. We are quickly introduced to many other characters, and each one has their own unique personality and background. The story doesn’t focus on Asher’s point of view, instead it has many different perspectives from different characters. I like this unique style, because we can learn about events happening elsewhere, not just with the main character. All of this contributes to the plot of the story, where a great war is brewing across the land. We can see the pieces moving from different sides and how they react to the constantly shifting plot . There were many characters in this book, and each one is essential to the story. From Nathaniel Galfrey, the son of a disgraced warrior, to Adilandra, an elven queen trying to find dragons, each one shows a different part of the story. The worldbuilding and character development are far beyond what you would normally expect, and I recommend anyone who enjoys reading fantasy to check out this series. This book is the first book in a nine-part series called The Echoes Saga, which is definitely worth reading.
