Summary: It’s not easy making the career jump from office-supplies-store middle manager to heroic interdimensional adventurer. At least, Jason tries to be heroic, but it's hard to be good when all your powers are evil.
He’ll face off against cannibals, cultists, wizards, monsters...and that’s just on the first day. He’s going to need courage, he’s going to need wit, and he’s going to need some magic powers of his own. But first, he’s going to need pants.
In this book, He Who Fights With Monsters, the main character of this book, Jason Asano, was transported to another mystical world in his sleep, and thrusting him headfirst into much danger. The character written by this author is simply amazing, as Jason Asano has a unique, witty personality. But Jason also has many flaws, and is not perfect by any means. He makes many mistakes, and has been defeated many times. But here, the reader gets to see another aspect of Jason's personality, which is an enduring will, as we see that Jason, even when faced with defeat, only gets back up and learns from his past mistakes. Jason is certainly a great character, but what is even more impressive is the way the characters interact with each other and with the world. The way that the author writes allows the characters to naturally interact with the world, instead of making it seem like a play with the events already determined. This books also contains many mature themes, such as loyalty, the morality of killing, and righteousness. If you are a more mature reader who enjoys great characters and a deep fantasy book with lighthearted interactions along the way, than this book is for you. However, even if you aren't into that, I would still recommend you to read this book, as this series is truly an experience to read.
